LUMS

LUMS
was on Airport Road in Warwick also in Providence,
located on Silver Spring Street in the 1970's.
(It's now an auto body shop.) - Known for it's delicious Hot Dogs,
Rootbeer & Schooners of Beer!
Kids loved selecting the Free Toy from the Lum's treasure
chest at the end of the meal.

  1. Lums also had a burger that was dipped in beer then cooked on the grill. I didnt like it so much but back then you were expected to eat all your food.

  2. There was also a Lums in North Kingstown on Post Road. The building has long changed. After Lums closed the building became a walk in doctor's office which eventually became part of South County Hospital until SCH moved it's services to a new building on Rt 2. The building looks abandoned now (tho it doesn't look anything like the old Lums restaurant anyway).

  4. Someone has opened a Lums in MA. They bought the rights to the logo and the original recipes. Who knows, maybe this will be the beginning of a new chain again.

  11. I remember as a kid going to the one on Airport Road in Warwick. We would always go to the Midland (sorry, Rhode Island) Mall after it. This is probably like in the late 1970s, maybe early 1980s.

Since I was born and raised in North Kingstown, going to the big city of Warwick seemed like a big deal back then.

  15. I remember how thrilling it was for our Mom to take my brother, sister, and me, during the late 70’s, to the Lum’s at Park Square. We’d get the “Lum Dogs” stemmed in beer, I think they made it like a chili dog (?). Our choice of dessert was the red Jello or chocolate pudding. They’d top it off with whipped cream from a can.

  16. I was only in elementary school. In the mid 70's, but I distinctly remember a LUMS in Westerly, on Franklin Rd, and next to a Burger Chef and a KFC.

  20. We used to eat at the Lums in North Kingstown, RI. Way back in 1971, it was brand new! Our favorite was Shrimp-in-a-basket with a pitcher of Rootbeer and Strawberry Shortcake for dessert!!
