FINAST FIRST NATIONAL STORES

FINAST FIRST NATIONAL STORES, was a retail supermarket brand in
the
northeastern United States until being absorbed by Edwards and its Dutch parent
Royal Ahold in the mid-1990s. Its name was an acronym for "First National Stores
Inc." Even after the store name was shortened, many still referred to the store as
"The First National" Had statewide locations!

  3. Wow! Thanks for posting a FINAST page. My grandfather was one of the founders. All who worked for this company are grateful to see it remembered here in your blog. Many good people stood behind the FINAST brand and lived the company's strong values.

  5. Can anyone confirm there was a Finast/First National store in Centerdale, RI, back in the late 50s?

  6. Yes, on Mineral Spring Avenue as you go onto Centerdale. There was a furniture store across the street from the First National store.
Why are you interested in this location?
I spoke to my dad who worked for First National for 40 some odd years and he remembers the store.

  7. There was also a Finast (First National) on the Pawtucket line in South Attleboro... It later turned in a Brooks Drug... I think now, it is a Rite-Aid pharmacy.
