  2. Also one on Metacom Avenue in Bristol. It was the last big one they opened before the chain went bankrupt. I remember that at Christmas they had big bins in their basement that were filled with different figures you could buy for your Nativity display: of course Mary, Joseph, the baby Jesus in the manger, the three kings and the shepherds...also camels, sheep, goats, the camel driver, a man presenting the baby Jesus with a gift of eggs, little boy with pipes or a flute player, dogs, the ox and donkey, etc.

  5. They opened a huge Grants in Newport before they went out of business in 1976. Before that it was located at Aquidneck Shopping center in middletown. It sold appliances, had a restaurant, and a giant toy department which sold smal motorcycles. WalMart is in the building now.

  8. There was also one in the Aquidneck Shopping Center in Middletown. They were where Shaw's is now, then they moved to where Walmart is now for a short time before becoming a JC Penney. My mother's best friend worked in the Middletown location.

  10. Grants wasn't in Bristol, it was in Warren, located in the Ocean State Plaza on Metacom Ave. My Mom worked in the curtain dept, and I would walk or ride my bike to have lunch with her at Bradford's, which was a diner inside the store. Thet sold 45's for 77 cents a pop. Great memories!
