CHESS KINGIt was a men's clothing retailer created by the Melville Corporation.
Although the retailer was successful during the 1980s, changing fashion trends
contributed to the chain falling on hard times at the beginning of the 1990s.
Chess King was sold in 1993 to Merry Go Round Enterprises (MGRE),
and in January 1994, MGRE filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy.
In November 1995, the Chess King chain closed.

WOW, I remember shopping here in the late 80's for school clothes. I've bought several pair of Z Cavaricci's here.

ReplyDeleteI worked at chess king in Clear Lake Texas,in the late 80's for 3 years while in high school. It great for meeting guys and fun putting together the displays. It was true 80's clothes and they never really changed I understand why they died out.
