WARREN JEWELERS

WARREN JEWELERS,
In the mid 60’s Warren Jewelers opened in Rhode Island and took
off like whirlwind.
Consumers were attracted to there easy credit terms
more than the quality of their merchandise.

Their slogan was “Why Worry Warren Will WAIT” made buying that
special engagement ring easy. No credit No problem.

Sixteen and in love? No problem... WARREN sold anyone, with easy
payment plans that suited the customer.

It had several RI locations, with it’s main stores on Westminster Street,
in Downtown Providence and Oneyville.

Unfortunately for Warren, they worried plenty, when their easy credit terms
back fired and became their demise.
They closed in the late 80’s, and are still waiting for their money!

  2. My father had founded Warren Jewelers in Pawtucket in the very late 1950s. The demise of the chain was actually based on three different phenomena: the general deterioration of downtown locations in the 1970s and 1980s (most retail businesses were then moved into the malls), the dramatic rise in interest rates nationally (so credit retail sales became MUCH riskier) and the increase in the availability of credit cards.
