ReplyDeleteMrs. Ricci was my neighbor and it was not until after my dog died in 1981 did we find out he dug under the fence and used to go over to her house and she'd give him a donut
ReplyDeleteI worked at the Holiday Inn in 1974 at the front desk, Elvis was staying there for his concert at the Civic Center, a member of his crew asked me for directions to better bake shop to get Elvis his jelly donuts.

ReplyDeleteOh the fond memories of Al's creations, from the dramatic wedding cake he did for my sister in the mid 1960's to the lemon and fig squares, snowflake rolls, the green shillelagh breads he's make for St. Patrick's Day, to the chocolate covered cup cakes, not to mention the traditional birthday cakes. I can still remember them, the way they tasted, the consistency.
ReplyDeleteI remember the orbs hanging from the ceiling, that the string to tie the pastry and cake boxes and the display plates/dishes that were colored and looked like lighted neon from the edges. How Al always displayed his masterpieces in the window.
