MARTINIQUE

MARTINIQUE Seafood & Steakhouse
was located on
Broad Street in Providence. Closed during the late 70s-early 80s.

“What I remember about this place was it’s massive neon sign sitting
atop the building -
ran almost the entire length of the front facade.
Would drive this place to/from Roger Williams Park
& Zoo,
but, as a youngster, never made it inside!"
- Robert Schwartz

    1. Coincidentally, I also remember stopping by in the late evening for a nightcap. Bartenders, whom I can still picture in my mind, were so, so polite. I, as well was in my early twenties.

    3. Was the area all around there bad like in the early 1960s? I know it went down hill in the 1970s

  5. My parents would take the family there many a Friday night after school in the early to mid 60's. Wonderfully cool air conditioning on hot muggy evenings. My favorite dinner was pork chops, baked potato and peas. Marked us as Protestants in a Roman Catholic town.

  7. I worked there from 1973 to 75. Started as a dish washer ended up as a cook thanks to John Forrest,George Richard, and Charlie, teaching me.I remember the day the hook and ladder truck pulled out of the Fire Station across the street and wiped out a few cars in front of the restaurant. It was a great classic with an awesome Neon sign.

  9. Forever today trying to remember the name of this restaurant and it just popped into my mind. Went there many times in the early seventies for business lunch. Also dined there with my wife. Was always busy and the food was great.
