MAMMOTH MART 
was a discount department store chain, located in the northeastern
United States, primarily in the New England area. Selling housewares, 

hardware and clothing in stark, unfussy buildings,
usually in suburban shopping center locations.

  1. I remember the one at Park Square in North Smithfield, that building is now occupied by Stop & Shop.

  2. there was one on Hartford Ave. Johnston,RI FORGOT THE NAME NOW there is a Price Rite, BJ's gas and there WAS other store in the 1978 to 1996 there like CLYDE'S HAD GREAT PANCAKES,and ICE CREAM, Almac's ...Joe's Dollar store.(THAT part of the building stood for year) Cost Plus, Only a Dollar, and several other stores. My mom, Grandma and bother went there every Saturday, then chanced names NOT SURE THE YEAR until 1994 the plaza close for years it is now rebuild 20?? and then drove to Kmart and Value Land. i miss those stores

  4. Ok, here it goes. The Mammoth Mart in North Smithfield was on the spot where the Stop & Shop Parking lot is however none of the original buildings remain.
    At the time there was an Almacs sitting where the Stop & Shop is now. There was also for a while a Burger Chef in the parking lot near the road.

    3. It might have been both Star Market & Almacs because Star Market sold all of their stores in RI to Almacs.

  5. I worked there when they bought out Brodsky's / Boston Baby where I had worked during my first two years of high school. I worked for Mr. Kirshenbaum in the sporting goods department till I entered RIC. Great memories.

  6. I remember am Mammoth Mart in East Providence by a Star market. Not to far from the race track.

  8. I remember going to Thornton school went up to the ninth grade, didn't have a high school , had one small movie house on Atwood Ave, Johnston was nice and quiet in those days.

  10. Johnston is not quiet anymore,too much traffic,i t was nice around the 70s and 80s .
