Riverside had a store if a remember correctly from my youth. Wasn`t the Grants department store located in the same plaza?
The Grants in Riverside was not near a Big G - It was near an Almacs and an A&P. I think the Big G was either in Seekonk or East Providence.
There was a Big G on Smioth Street in Smith Hill too... Had a Laundromat attached to it... Right across the street from Domestic Oil and A. Watt & Sons...
There was a Big G store on Newport Ave in East Prov it closed in the mid 70s
Tower Hill Rd (Rt 1) in North Kingstown as well. It is now a Dave's Marketplace.
I remember this :) I was little but remember going to see my stepfather who had worked there ♡
one in Coventry where Benny's now resides. If you look to left of the parking lot you can see where the Big G self serve gas station was. That is in the day of under 40 cent gas a gallon.
I worked at the store on Market St. in Warren in the late 60's..It's now some sort of remedial school.
My Dad Bill Moretti was the Manager there in the late 60's
Big G in Warwick was on Post Road, where Wal-Mart is now. Misspent much of my youth in the Warwick Plaza.
We lived on Blackamore Avenue in Cranston and used to walk to the store on Reservoir Ave
The Big G in Cranston was at 725 Reservoir Ave to be exact. There used to be a car dealership (Buick maybe?) next door, closer to Park Avenue. The Big G building was expanded in the 80's or 90's(?) and is now a professional building -- doctors mostly, I suppose.
And King Corn trading stamps!!! I remember the name, but not mutch else, except they were orange. Almacs S&H GREEN stamps -- I still can see the silly rotary dispenser!
I remember the Big G right across from Tiogue Lake on Rt3 in the mid 60's. All the kids in Oak Haven Manor called it "The Big Gyp"!.
I started in the Coventry store 72 to Groton73 to Old Saybroo73. I lived in Warwick but traveled for promo, 65 mi one way.76 I quit. At that time the writing was on the wall. A short time later an employee called to say they were going our of business. Mr Livin I think was his name was taking money from our company and buing condows in Florida. For the last couple of years I and others would work off the clock so we saved on payroll. Livin stole that money from us an left many broken.I did learn a lot and went on to have a great career in retail, owning my own store for 15yrs by the beach. When it was right it was a great company to work for. And I met Sue!!!
My father got me my first job at the New Bedford store in 1970. Working there taught me a lot about working hard and teamwork. The store manager was Mike Kimmey who was a great guy and the grocery manager was Ronny Souza also a great guy.
I worked for the Big G for many years( HS, College and after). Mostly in Cumberland store-Daves is there now. Also in Pawt/Benefit st, Prov/Smith St. Great managers: Bob Quinn, BK Blakely, Bob Boudreau, John Moretti, John Richardson!Plus supers Frank Merlino and Vinny Penta!I was a deli guy!
There was a Big G store at the corner of (1665) Mineral Spring Ave and Douglas Av. in North Providence, now occupied by a Walgreens. There was also another store off of Plainfield Pike on a side street. It might have been Marlow St. Cranston now possibly replaced by a school.
